The Holy Cross Health Cancer Center is thefirst in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to offer the Varian Edgeradiosurgery system, a state-of-the-art technology that precisely targetsradiation to brain, lung and spine tumors and allows simultaneous treatment ofmore areas.
The center’s experienced clinicians – includingboard-certified radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, and radiationtherapists – work closely with the medical and surgical oncologists in HolyCross Health's Cancer Care program. The center is led by radiation oncologistsSheela D. Modin, MD, and Rajal Patel, MD.
Holy Cross Health cares for more cancerinpatients annually than any other hospital or health system in Montgomery andPrince George’s counties. Holy Cross Health’s cancer program holds theRadiation Oncology Practice accreditation for the Radiation Treatment Center bythe American College of Radiology and the Comprehensive Community CancerProgram accreditation by the American Colleagues of Surgeons Commission onCancer since 2000.
The space for radiation treatment is triple thesize of the original center and is all above ground, with lots of windows tobring in natural light to provide a soothing and healing experience forpatients.
