More than 600 guests gathered to celebrate a milestone year for Holy Cross Health at the 50th Annual Harvest Ball on October 18 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Benefitting Holy Cross Health's Capital Campaign expansion projects, maternity services and surgical care, the event reflected on recent achievements, including the opening of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital on October 1, the anticipated opening of Holy Cross Hospital's new patient care building in fall 2015, and our three health centers that provide affordable primary care.
"These historic accomplishments—the harvest we are celebrating—bring to life a vision for improving access and health care quality for the communities we serve," said Kevin J. Sexton, president and CEO, Holy Cross Health. "Our success has been years in the making and has depended upon our donors, employees, physicians, board members, volunteers, state and local officials, and community members who supported this vision for improving health."
Mr. Sexton also presented the 2014 Cornerstone Award to John "Jack" F. McShea III, chair of the Holy Cross Health Foundation, who has demonstrated strong leadership within Holy Cross Health for over a decade. Not only was Mr. McShea a founding trustee of the Foundation in 2006, but he's also served on the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors, bringing a local perspective, a high level of engagement and a cordial spirit that is highly valued.
Master of Ceremonies Ram Trehan, MD, led attendees through an entertaining program and live auction, while many guests ventured to hang a leaf on the Giving Tree and further contribute to the "harvest."
SmithGroupJJR served as the evening's host sponsor, and platinum sponsors included EMJAY Engineering and Construction Co., Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan.
The 50th Annual Holy Cross Health Harvest Ball would not have been possible without the dedication of the volunteers, committee members, staff and trustees, led by Harvest Ball Committee Chair Mary DuBois Sexton and Harvest Ball Physicians Committee Chair Blair M. Eig, MD.
