(Silver Spring, Maryland) – Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, Maryland is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its board of trustees as well as the election of officers. Joining the Holy Cross Health Board of Trustees in 2014 are Sharon E. Friedman and Robert J. Lechleider, M.D. For 2014, chair Edward H. Bersoff, Ph.D., vice chair Paul T. Kaplun and secretary Lynne D. Diggs, M.D., were re-elected, and Rona E. Kramer was elected treasurer.

New Trustees

Sharon E. Friedman


Ms. Friedman is Principal, Friedman Strategies, LLC, and special projects consultant with Nonprofit Montgomery/The Nonprofit Roundtable, bringing her experience of 18 years as Executive Director of the Mental Health Association in Montgomery County to the greater nonprofit sector. She is currently serving as the Project Manager for Montgomery Moving Forward. Ms. Friedman became a member of the Holy Cross Health Mission and Strategy Committee in 2013 and also serves on the Task Force on Opening Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.

Robert J. Lechleider, M.D.


Dr. Lechleider is a board certified physician in the areas of internal medicine and medical oncology. He is the Chief Scientific Officer at United States Diagnostic Standards, Inc, in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Lechleider also has held academic appointments in pharmacology, medicine, and molecular and cell biology at USUHS and Georgetown University. Dr. Lechleider has served on the Holy Cross Health Quality and Patient Safety Committee since 2008 and became chair its 2014 as he joined the Board. He also chairs the Credentialing Subcommittee of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee and serves on the Executive and Governance Committee.

Officers

Chair - Edward H. Bersoff, Ph.D.


Dr. Bersoff is the Chairman of Greenwich Associates, LLC, a Bethesda-based business consulting firm serving technology businesses in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Dr. Bersoff has a long history of involvement in business, community and professional activities with his primary outside interests in education and health care. Dr. Bersoff was re-elected as chair of the Holy Cross Health Board of Trustees, having served as chair since 2012. He also chairs the Executive and Governance Committee and the Nominating Committee, and serves on all other board committees as well as the Holy Cross Health Foundation Board of Trustees. He joined the Holy Cross Health board in 2009 and previously served as chair of the Finance Committee.

Vice Chair - Paul T. Kaplun


Mr. Kaplun is a partner in the corporate, securities, and business transaction practice of the Venable LLP law firm, in its Washington, D.C. office. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Kaplun practiced as a certified public accountant. Mr. Kaplun joined the Holy Cross Health Foundation Board of Trustees in 2006, and served as vice chair in 2008 and chair from 2009-2011. Mr. Kaplun joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Trustees in 2009 and was re-elected vice chair in 2014. He serves as chair of the Corporate Compliance and Integrity Committee and is a member of the Executive and Governance Committee and the Finance Committee.

Secretary - Lynne D. Diggs, M.D.


Dr. Diggs is a board-certified internist in private practice in Kensington, Maryland. She was named as one of the Washingtonian Magazine, “Top Doctors” in 2008, 2010 and 2012. She is a member of Med-Chi of Maryland and serves as secretary of the Montgomery County Medical Society. She served as chair, Department of Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital and served on the Medical Executive Committee from 2009-2011, and currently serves on the Credentials Committee. Dr. Diggs joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Trustees in 2012 and was re-elected secretary in 2014. She also serves on the Executive and Governance Committee and the Mission and Population Health Committee.

Treasurer - Rona E. Kramer


Ms. Kramer is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Kramer Enterprises. She served as Maryland State Senator from 2003-2011 and as a member of the Budget and Taxation and Joint Audit Committees throughout her tenure. She also served on several other key Senate committees, subcommittees, and joint committees. Ms. Kramer received several awards and recognitions for her outstanding service to business, government and community. Ms. Kramer joined the Holy Cross Health Board of Trustees in 2012 and was elected treasurer of the board in 2014. She also serves on the Executive and Governance Committee and the Finance Committee.
