(Silver Spring, Maryland) –Holy Cross Health (a member of CHE-Trinity Health of Michigan) has announced the selection of Doug Ryder to be the first President of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. After a nationwide search, Ryder was selected from among an impressive collection of candidates to serve at this critical formative time for the new hospital.
“I am delighted that Doug has accepted our offer,” said Kevin J. Sexton, president and CEO of Holy Cross Health. “He brings extremely pertinent experience, a track record of very significant, concrete accomplishments and an energy and positive approach that makes him ideal as the initial leader of the first new hospital in our county in 35 years.” Noting Ryder’s dedication to expanding access to health care, Sexton added, “We especially appreciated the strong positive relationships he was able to build with physicians and the broader community around the hospital.”
Ryder served at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in the Chicago area in increasingly responsible positions since 2001 and was most recently their senior operating official. Good Shepherd has stood out for its overall performance within Advocate Health, which is itself very highly regarded nationally as a well run, innovative multi-hospital system.
In a statement, Ryder said “I was attracted by the opportunity to be the inaugural President of this exciting venture, the chance to return to Montgomery County where I grew up and, especially, the mission commitment and overall quality of Holy Cross.”
Holy Cross Germantown Hospital will bring much-needed health care services to the most rapidly growing and aging region in the county. The six-story, 237,000 square-foot hospital will offer medical, surgical, obstetric, emergency and psychiatric care, when it opens its doors in 2014. The hospital will be situated as the anchor tenant of the Hercules Pinkney Life Sciences Park at Montgomery College in Germantown. This unique location will serve as a valuable resource for aspiring health care workers. In fact, it will be the first hospital in the nation on a community college campus with an education partnership.
Mr. Ryder joins Holy Cross Health October 14th and will work out of the Regional office as well as in space on the campus of the Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. He will be heavily engaged in leading the totality of the plans for opening the new hospital, including its construction, the critically important hiring process, building a medical staff and linking successfully with the up-county community.
