Holy Cross Hospital is Sole Recipient in Maryland of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures Recognition from The Joint Commission

(Silver Spring, Maryland) – Holy Cross Hospital today was named one of the nation's top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. The hospital was recognized based on data reported for 2010 about specific clinical processes that are shown to improve care.
Holy Cross Hospital is one of only 405 U.S. hospitals out of a total 3,099 participating and the only hospital in Maryland to be recognized for earning the distinction of top performer on any of the key quality measures reported. In fact, Holy Cross Hospital was recognized for all four categories of adult medicine that were rated: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. Only 162 hospitals, or five percent of participating hospitals, achieved that status.
To be recognized as a top performer in any one of the key quality measures, an organization must meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. First, they must achieve an average performance of 95 percent or above on the overall category; heart failure, for example. Second, they must meet or exceed a 95 percent performance target for every individual measure that falls within each overall category. Holy Cross Hospital was recognized for achieving both of these thresholds in the four categories.

In addition to being included in today's release of The Joint Commission's "Improving America's Hospitals" annual report, Holy Cross Hospital will be recognized on The Joint Commission's Quality Check website.
