Kevin J. Sexton, president and CEO of Holy Cross Hospital, was named the State of Maryland’s 2012 Grassroots Champion by The American Hospital Association, in partnership with the Maryland Hospital Association.
One hospital leader from each state is honored each year for work over the previous year in effectively delivering the hospital message to elected officials, helping broaden the base of community support for hospitals, and advocating tirelessly on behalf of patients, hospitals and communities.
Sexton was chosen as the single recipient from the State of Maryland for dedication to the hospital’s mission, on both the local and national level.
“Kevin’s passion for health care is evident in the work he does at the local, state, and national levels,” said Carmela Coyle, President & CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association. “Kevin is a dedicated advocate for all hospitals and the people they serve, and he is truly deserving of this honor.”
The American Hospital Association represents more than 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care. The Grassroots Champion Award was created to recognize those whose leadership most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s vital role in the community, who have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and who are tireless advocates for hospitals and their patients.
“We depend upon strong local voices to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve,” said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO. “This award is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these individuals to improving health and health care in America.”
Sexton said, “It is an honor to be recognized with this award.” He participated in the 7th annual “Breakfast of Grassroots Champions” held during the AHA annual membership meeting in Washington, D.C.
