Holy Cross Health Names Norvell V. Coots, M.D., as President and CEO

(Silver Spring, Maryland) - The Holy Cross Health Board of Directors announced today that Norvell V. Coots, M.D., will be the new President and CEO of Holy Cross Health, succeeding Kevin J. Sexton, who is retiring in 2016 after an 18 year-tenure with Holy Cross Health.
The Holy Cross Health Board of Directors approved unanimously Dr. Coots' appointment. He will begin his new role August 1, 2016.
Retired Brigadier General Norvell V. Coots, M.D., former Commanding General and CEO of Regional Health Command Europe, and Command Surgeon, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, has more than 20 years executive experience in all aspects of healthcare management and medical administration.
Dr. Coots held direct responsibility for Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Bavaria Health Command, Dental Command Europe and Public Health Command Europe. He was the point person in maintaining and nurturing partnerships with more than 40 civilian hospitals in Germany, Belgium and Italy. Previously, Dr. Coots served as Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the Army Medical Command and as Assistant Surgeon General for Force Projection at the Pentagon, and as Surgeon General, United States Forces, Afghanistan. He also previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Walter Reed Health Care System in Washington, D.C., and the Keller Army Community Hospital in West Point, New York.

Dr. Coots attended Howard University and subsequently earned his undergraduate degree from the University of the State of New York, Regent's College (now Excelsior) in Albany, New York, his Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA, and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After a transitional internship at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, he completed a dermatology residency at the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
