(Silver Spring, Md) – Holy Cross Health today announced that Holy Cross Hospital has achieved the Healthgrades 2020 America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction places Holy Cross Hospital in the top 5 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.
"We are honored to receive the 'America's 250 Best' distinction yet again," said Louis Damiano, president, Holy Cross Hospital. "Our colleagues, volunteers, and physicians work closely in partnership every day to provide excellent clinical care, and this recognition is a testament to their strong work ethic and dedication."
Holy Cross Hospital is one of only five hospitals in Maryland to be recognized with this award for four consecutive years.
From 2016 through 2018, patients treated in hospitals achieving the award had, on average, a 26.6 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures for which mortality is the outcome.*
And during that same period, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving the Healthgrades America's 250 Best Hospitals Award, 161,930 lives could potentially have been saved.
The Holy Cross Health system has a demonstrated track record of clinical excellence motivated by the promise to help individuals achieve their best quality of life. With the latest treatments and technologies, state-of-the-art facilities, and advanced training, Holy Cross Health is a leader in providing innovative and quality health care in areas such as joint, spine, gynecologic and bariatric surgery, as well as stroke care, women's health and oncology.
“It is apparent that the recipients of the Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospital Award are dedicated to providing quality care for their patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We congratulate the hospitals that received this award for their commitment to consistently providing top care and exceptional clinical outcomes for patients.”
In October 2019, Holy Cross Hospital was also recognized by Healthgrades with the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care™ award, the Critical Care Excellence Award™, Five-Star recipient for Treatment of Sepsis and Five-Star recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure.
