Holy Cross Hospital Receives Nonprofit Village Award for its Commitment to Community Health

Holy Cross Hospital has been recognized by the Nonprofit Village for its dedication to health promotion and disease prevention in the Montgomery County community.

With more than 50 different types of health, wellness and educational programs and services, Holy Cross Hospital has a history of reinvesting its earnings into innovative and sustainable community benefit programs to improve the health of all those served — particularly the most vulnerable and underserved community members.

“As a not-for-profit organization with a mission to be the most trusted provider of health care services in our area, we are committed to identifying and responding to community need,” said Annice Cody, chief strategy officer, Holy Cross Health. “On behalf of Holy Cross Hospital I want to thank Nonprofit Village for this recognition.”

“The myriad programs, educational opportunities and support groups that Holy Cross Hospital offers to the community is remarkable,” said Kim Jones, executive director,Nonprofit Village. “The staff of the hospital are committed to the individual treatment of each patient, but more importantly, Holy Cross Hospital conducts an aggressive campaign on disease prevention that seeks to keep members of the community healthy.”

The Nonprofit Village is part of a national network of nonprofits that provides shared space and essential support services to help keep the administrative costs of nonprofit organizations low. It is the first and only multi-tenant nonprofit center in Montgomery County.

The Nonprofit Village created the It Takes A Village Awards to honor individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations that are making a difference.

Last year, Holy Cross Hospital provided more than $47 million in community benefit, including more than $23 million in free or reduced-cost services. The hospital also trains students from dozens of nursing schools, medical schools and other health professional programs. And it provides primary care and prenatal care to thousands of people who do not have health insurance.

Holy Cross Hospital, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, began as a community partnership of the Silver Spring Hospital Association and the Sisters of the Holy Cross that came together to respond to the community’s need for a new hospital. Holy Cross Hospital’s community partnerships continue to sustain it today.

“As we continue to grow, including opening the new Holy Cross Germantown Hospital next year, we will maintain our legacy of leveraging partnerships to respond to community needs in order to make a difference in the communities we serve,” Cody said.
