March of Dimes Thanks Holy Cross Hospital NICU Staff, Physicians and Administration During Day of Gratitude

On November 19, the local March of Dimes held a Day of Gratitude event at Holy Cross Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to thank doctors, nurses and other NICU clinicians for the care they provide each day for tiny babies and their families.

Hospital staff were presented with a plaque to commemorate their efforts to support the March of Dimes’ mission to help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies.

“The March of Dimes is making progress toward reducing the incidence of preterm birth, but we still need these dedicated nurses and health care professionals to provide care for these very special and fragile patients,” stated Marie Pokraka, director of Program Services with the March of Dimes, as she presented the plaque to Holy Cross Hospital NICU staff.

In the state of Maryland, Holy Cross Hospital cares for more critically ill newborns than any other hospital. The 46-bed level IIIB NICU at Holy Cross Hospital features state-of-the-art technology to care for babies who are born early or have medical complications that require constant observation or care.

“We are dedicated, each and every day, to providing the best possible care for all high-risk babies born at Holy Cross Hospital,” said Dr. Sharon Kiernan, medical director of the Holy Cross Hospital NICU. “We are proud of our collaboration with the March of Dimes and appreciate their work to decrease the incidence of premature births nationwide.”
