First Class Maternity Care at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital | Allison, Wendell and Baby Colton

“We could tell their hearts are in their jobs. It showed in how they cared for us,” say Allison and Wendell Jones of the staff at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.

“Having our baby at a brand new hospital, close to home, was ideal,” explain Allison and Wendell Jones of Frederick. Their son, Colton, was the first baby to be delivered by Cesarean-section at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.

Allison says she was very nervous when she first arrived at the hospital, but she was quickly put at ease. “The staff was reassuring and professional, and everything went so smoothly,” she says. “It was a caring, warm environment to bring our baby into this world.”

The couple remembers their initial excitement when Allison’s obstetrician, V. Ashok Rangnath, MD, chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, told them the new hospital would be open just in time for the arrival of their baby.

The community’s response to the opening of the Maternity Center at the new hospital has been outstanding, says Eric M. Ashkin, MD, chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Holy Cross Hospital. “Maternity patients at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital receive the same sophisticated, comprehensive and compassionate care that Holy Cross Hospital has always been known for.”

“From day one, the Maternity Center at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital had everything mothers and their newborns need,” says Dr. Rangnath. “It is staffed around the clock by obstetricians, neonatologists and anesthesiologists and has a Level II special care nursery for babies who need extra care.”

Like all maternity patients at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, Allison had a spacious, private maternity suite with a private bathroom, cable television and wireless Internet access. Each suite has a sleeping couch and extra seating for visitors. She particularly enjoyed the large picture window with a beautiful view of the landscaping.

“My husband was comfortable and stayed with me all three nights and our baby was with us in the room at all times in the bassinette beside the bed,” she says. Allison says she could not have been happier with the nurses who cared for them. “They were always checking on me—to see if I needed pain medication, care for my incision, and help with breastfeeding. The nurses were on top of everything,” she says. “It was a first-class experience.”
