Cardiac Rhythm Management

Holy Cross Hospital is a leader in cardiac rhythm management. For patients with slow or irregular heartbeats, a cardiac implant can help by carrying precisely timed electrical impulses to adapt a patient's heartbeat to the circulatory system's needs.

The hospital boasts several "firsts" for new advances in cardiac implants.

Holy Cross Hospital is the first hospital in Maryland to offer the world's smallest pacemaker, the Micra® Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS) and was the first in the Washington metropolitan area to implant the world's thinnest bipolar pacing lead. We were one of three hospitals in the state chosen as a site for the implantation of the InSync SentryTM cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator system.

And Holy Cross Hospital was the first community hospital in Maryland to insert an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, and continues to be among the first in the area to adopt advances in electrophysiology.

Cardiac rhythm management procedures include:

  • Diagnostic electrophysiology studies
  • Radiofrequency ablation of tachyarrhythmias
  • Implantable cardiac defibrillator
  • Permanent pacemaker implantation
  • Cardioversion
