Preparing for Epilepsy Monitoring

Our epilepsy monitoring program coordinator will contact you prior to admission to provide instructions for your admission, including the date and time you should arrive. You also will receive a phone call the morning of your admission to confirm your arrival time. It is important that you arrive on schedule, so that your monitoring can be initiated promptly.

What to Wear
Plan to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and to bring clothes that fasten up the front. Or you may choose to wear a hospital gown.

What to Bring
Bring all the medications you take (seizure and non-seizure) to the hospital. These will be reviewed by our hospital's pharmacist, and then safely stored at the nurse's station and returned to you at discharge. The hospital will administer medications ordered by the epileptologist from the hospital pharmacy. By hospital policy, we can only administer medications that you bring from your home if we cannot provide the exact medication.

We also encourage you to bring personal items, such as games, books and other diversions that will help you pass the time. Each room is equipped with a cable television and telephone for your convenience. You are welcome to bring your laptop computer.

Support of Family and Friends
A family member should plan to be with you throughout your hospital stay. Holy Cross Hospital has open visiting hours, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Children under 12 years of age must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times while visiting the hospital.
