Assessing Nervous System Conditions
Many physician specialists can be involved in the evaluation and diagnosis of patients with central and peripheral nervous system conditions - including functional, structural and degenerative abnormalities. Patients with these disorders may experience a wide range of symptoms. They may first visit their primary care physician and undergo preliminary tests, and they may then be referred to a neurologist, endocrinologist, neurosurgeon, orthopedic surgeon, anesthesiologist for pain management, or other specialist.
These specialists may ultimately work together to develop a plan of care for the patient, focusing on eliminating or minimizing patients' symptoms and promoting each patient's best possible outcome.
