50th Anniversary Holy Cross Health Gala Raises More Than $630,000 to Support Holy Cross Health Expansion Projects

More than 650 guests filled the room to celebrate the 50th Anniversary Holy Cross Health Gala on Saturday, November 9 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
The Gala raised more than $630,000 for the construction of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, which opens in Fall 2014, and a new patient care building at Holy Cross Hospital, which opens in 2015. Both expansion projects will allow Holy Cross Health to continue meeting the growing health care needs of our community.
Holy Cross Health President and CEO Kevin J. Sexton led the gala celebration by thanking the numerous groups who have come together to make the last 50 years such a success. Sexton shared his vision for the future of Holy Cross Health and an update about the work being done to bring Holy Cross Germantown Hospital to the community.
At the gala, the black and gold décor set the mood – a throwback to the elegance and style of the 1960s. Tom Costello, NBC Washington Correspondent, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Guests were serenaded during the cocktail reception by the incredible voices of the children from the Adventure Theatre Musical Theatre Center.

The evening also featured a fascinating performance by artist Michael Ostasiak of Art Explosion. Through his fast-paced and energetic display of talent, Ostasiak quickly brought the 1960’s to life for gala guests as he painted his first of two portraits, a close up of John Lennon.
After giving three Cornerstone Awards, to include a special 50th Anniversary award to the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, guests were able to enjoy a wonderful dinner and the fellowship of the Holy Cross Health family.
Before dancing the night away to the sounds of the Right-On Band, attendees bid on more than 100 silent and live auction items - many donated by Holy Cross Hospital nurses in more than a dozen units! And, many donors gave generously to our special “Giving Tree” appeal to fund the Level IIB neonatal unit at the new Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.
The success of the 50th Anniversary Gala would not have been possible without the hard work and support of volunteers, committee members, staff, and trustees led by Gala Co-Chairs Dr. Phil and Mrs. Joyce Schneider; Auction Co-Chairs Theresa Brown, Sarah Katherine Drury, and Neda Tahbaz; and Car Raffle Co-Chairs Cindy Stark and Beth Swart.
