Holy Cross Hospital has again earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement and Spine Surgery Certification. The hospital was originally certified for these services in 2015 and was the first hospital in Montgomery County to be certified for Spine Surgery. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
"Holy Cross Hospital is pleased to again receive Disease-Specific Care Certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” said Lou Damiano, MD, president, Holy Cross Hospital. “The recognition speaks to our organization's culture of excellence that we consistently provide to those in our community.”
Awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:
- Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
- Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
- An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
Holy Cross Hospital's spine program provides the comprehensive care that patients need to restore their health and quality of life.
"Re-certification from The Joint Commission acknowledges the sustained, high-quality care of our robust spine program," said Philip Schneider, MD, orthopedic spine surgeon and medical director of the Holy Cross Hospital Spine Center. "Our team's expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, coupled with specialized care providers and non-surgical options for patients, allows us to treat the individual to get rid of pain and increase function."
Holy Cross Hospital's joint program focuses on helping patients live full and productive lives by eliminating the debilitating symptoms that can accompany joint disorders.
"This recognition from The Joint Commission demonstrates how our program meets high standards to achieve excellent outcomes for our patients," said Zohair Alam, MD, orthopedic surgeon and medical director of the Holy Cross Hospital Joint Center. "Beyond following evidence-based best practices and using advanced technology, the joint care team—from registration through discharge—is truly committed to getting our patients back to their lives and doing the things they love."
