KidSafe - Stop Identity Theft
Children are 35 times more likely than adults to be victims of identity theft. That's because most don't attempt to establish credit until their late teens, giving thieves years to work undetected.
There is a simple tool that parents can use to protect their child’s identity: a credit freeze.
Maryland law requires that credit agencies allow parents to create a credit report for a child for the express purpose of immediately freezing it. Once the report is frozen, creditors cannot access it. The sooner you freeze your child’s credit, the lower the risk for identity theft.
