Christa and Pat
Two dear friends recently found a unique way to support Holy Cross Health by donating a retinal lens to Holy Cross Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“We wanted to give a gift that would be enduring and useful,” say Christa Hojlo and Pat Vandenberg, former Sisters of the Holy Cross who previously worked at the hospital and now volunteer in the hospital’s NICU.
Premature babies are more likely to experience eye problems and the retinal lens magnifies the retinal structure to help doctors determine if treatment is needed.
Christa and Pat’s gift was made to honor and recognize their family friend, Peter Wawrzusin, MD, who graduated from medical school and plans to become an ophthalmologist.
This is the second retinal lens in the NICU. There are many ways to support Holy Cross Health.
