Dawn Walton, MD
It was a dream of Dawn Walton, MD, to work at Holy Cross Hospital since she was a child growing up in Prince George’s County.
“As a resident in neonatology, I was overwhelmed by the personal and compassionate care I saw delivered by physicians and clinical staff alike at Holy Cross,” said Dr. Walton, neonatologist and vice president of the medical staff, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. “I knew there was no place else on earth I wanted to work, and fourteen years later I’m still living my dream.”
She explains what she values most about Holy Cross in two words: experience and compassion.
Dr. Walton sees these values exemplified when parents are facing a critically ill newborn. “In moments of unimaginable sadness, we’re able to serve these parents and their infants with every measure of compassion and grace, and help them through the hardest moments of their lives,” she says.
One of the joys of her job is to look at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit “alumni wall” covered in photographs of children who were clinging to life at birth, and are now celebrating life’s milestones with family and friends.
For these reasons and more, Dr. Walton is grateful for her colleagues, and has given generously to Holy Cross for helping make her dreams come true.
