Holy Cross Hospital has again received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition of its lactation program for breastfeeding families, which includes professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) certification. The hospital also carries out activities that help protect, promote and support breastfeeding, reflecting the organization's commitment to best practices that nurture the bonding and well-being of mothers and their babies. Holy Cross Hospital is the only hospital in Montgomery County, Md., and one of three hospitals in Maryland to earn the 2018 IBCLC Care Award, a two-year recognition.

"Holy Cross Hospital delivers more babies than any other hospital in Maryland, and Holy Cross Health is dedicated to providing resources that make expert lactation assistance available to our breastfeeding families," says Ann B. Burke, MD, vice president, Medical Affairs, Holy Cross Hospital; and medical director, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Holy Cross Health. "We fulfill this commitment through encouraging and informing our breastfeeding families about the benefits and management of breastfeeding as well as training health care professionals to help new mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals and move life forward for themselves and their babies.”

Holy Cross Health also offers breast pump rental, community-based educational programs and classes related to breastfeeding, and a support group and e-newsletter for breastfeeding families. For more information, visit HolyCrossHealth.org/breastfeeding.
