Hospital-Based Programs & Services
Holy Cross Health's comprehensive medical and support services for cancer patients and their loved ones include the following:
Pain Management
Pain management experts are part of the cancer multidisciplinary team that collaborates on your individual care plan. The Holy Cross Pain Management Center offers individualized evaluation and treatment; our goal is to effectively manage pain and help you return you to normal daily activities.
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
Physical therapy and rehabilitation may be part of your cancer treatment and recovery. Our board-certified staff includes specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. Together, they collaborate on an individual treatment plan to restore function, help you reach your highest level of independence and maintain your quality of life.
Lymphedema Therapy
Cancer patients who have lymph nodes removed may experience side effects requiring special care, including physical therapy. Treatment is available through our dedicated Lymphedema Treatment Center.
Nurse Navigation
If you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, Holy Cross Health will provide a cancer nurse navigator to serve as your guide through the process of treatment and recovery. She will also serve as advocate and friend during this challenging time – answering questions, accompanying you to appointments, arranging other support services and more.
Nutrition Services
Patients may benefit from medical nutrition therapies for cancer. Holy Cross Health's registered dietitians offer nutrition counseling and will work with you to develop a plan that addresses your specific needs.
Counseling and Spiritual Care
A cancer diagnosis and treatment are among the most challenging events you and your loved ones will face. Holy Cross offers a range of support options designed to help you and your family when you need it most.
Counseling is available for cancer patients. Our oncology social workers offer support for patients and family members, including children. For example, a social worker can help with how to discuss your illness with your children.
Spiritual support is also available through Holy Cross Health's Spiritual care team. Clergy of every affiliation – who respect and honor every patient’s cultural beliefs and rituals – can work with you, your family and your care team. This help is available at all times, day or night.
Palliative Care
Holy Cross Health provides palliative care for all hospitalized patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses, including cancer. The multidisciplinary palliative care team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, spiritual care providers, pharmacologists and pain management specialists, who work closely with your attending physician and the nursing staff to support you or your loved one, as well as the entire family. The palliative care team at Holy Cross Health takes a holistic approach to care to reduce the suffering and anxiety patients may face during serious illness.
Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice
Most people would prefer to receive care at home, given the choice. Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice offers home-based medical care and private home services to best meet your individual and family needs.
Your multidisciplinary cancer care team will assess medical care options for home. You can also arrange for help with daily living needs including light housekeeping and laundry, grocery shopping and meal preparation, assistance with bathing and dressing, plus medication reminders and companionship.
Although Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice emphasizes the importance of home care, hospice services are also available for other care settings, including institutional ones. Compassionate team members can help with skilled nursing, social work, personal assistance, spiritual support and grief counseling for adults and children.
